Ataxia

means without coordination. Ataxia is a condition due to lack of muscle coordination affecting walking, speech, the ability to swallow, eye movements, picking up objects and other voluntary movements. Parts of the nervous system controlling movement and balance are affected, Ataxia is a disease belonging to the treatment group of Cerebral Palsy

There are many different types of ataxia, which can be divided into three broad categories:

Hereditary ataxia:
Caused by faulty genes inherited from the parents and it develops slowly over the years. Of this type, most common is Friedreich’s ataxia. According to the available data, there are over 40 known forms of inherited ataxia.

Acquired ataxia:
This type develops due to any problem that may damage brain or nervous system.

Idiopathic late onset cerebellar ataxia (ILOCA):
Where the brain is progressively damaged over time for reasons that are unclear.

What Causes Ataxia?

Causes of ataxias are stroke, brain tumor, trauma, alcohol abuse, drug abuse, exposure to toxic chemicals, brain surgery, multiple sclerosis (MS), cerebral palsy, and some other neurological conditions, malformation of the cerebellum while the baby is still in the womb and any kind of nutritional deficiency.

Ataxia Symptoms and Signs:

Symptoms may vary depending on the type of ataxia. Initial ataxia symptoms usually include Poor limb coordination, Dysarthria (slurred and slow speech), the patient may also have difficulties to control volume, rhythm, and pitch of his speech.

In advanced state other symptoms may also appear like swallowing difficulties (sometimes result in choking or coughing), facial expressions become less apparent, remors, Nystagmus (involuntary rapid rhythmic repetitious eye movement). Movements may be vertical, horizontal, or circular, Pescavus (foot with too high an arch), cold feet – because of a lack of muscle activity, problems with balance, difficulty in walking, vision and hearing problems, physical and sexual development is usually delayed.

Treating Ataxia by using stem cells:

Stem cells may help to improve the symptoms of ataxia but it is important to remember that the therapy is not a cure. The therapy cannot change the underlying cause of the cell death but it can help to slow the disease’s progression and provide improvements in overall health and stability. Duration:

The Cell treatment for Ataxia will require a minimum stay of seven nights in our associated clinic in Delhi in a private en-suite hospital room for double occupancy with a partner. Please note it is mandatory for all patients to arrive with a caregiver. Each adult patient (16 years or older) is allowed to have one caregiver stay in the hospital with them for free. Young patients (15 years old or younger) may have two caregivers with them in the hospital room for free. Any additional caregivers will need to make plans at a nearby hotel.

Treatment Review at the designated clinic in New Delhi:

During a doctors consultancy, we are reviewing jointly existing medical data, like MRI or CT and if applicable: EEG, explaining informed consent statement and making additional diagnostic tests in order to determine the final treatment procedure.
